Early Life and Career
Born on August 21, 1905, in Meerut into a Bengali family. Gupta’s journey into the world of acting was as fascinating as the roles he portrayed on screen. His parents were Trailokya Nath Gupta and Khemankari Devi. His family moved to Barrackpore, near Calcutta. Bipin attended the “Chinsura Training School and later went to Barrackpore Government High School.
Bipin Gupta started his career by working on radio in 1934 and in a few years, he went on to become a renowned stage artist. He stayed for 30 years in Bombay to establish himself as an actor.

Gupta made his Bengali film debut with “Chokher Bali,” directed by Sotu Sen in 1938. His talent quickly became evident, and he went on to work in almost 300 films. His first Hindi film was Debaki Kumar Bose’s “Shri Ramanuj.” Despite his extensive filmography, he only played the lead role once, in the film ‘Noori’.
Some of his early films include “Suleh,” “Prabhu Ka Ghar,” “Gwalan,” “Pujari,” “Rajputani,” “Lakhon Mein Ek,” “Pardesi Mehaman,” “Buniyad,” “Wafa,” “Nagina,” “Shabistan,” and many more.

In 1952 Bipin Gupta played the role of Akbar in Vijay Bhatt’s “Baiju Bawra,” starring Bharat Bhushan and Meena kumari. The same year he played thye role of Dev Anand‘s grandfather in Phani Majumdar’s comedy “Tamasha (1952).”

Personal Life
He was married to Annapurna Devi. He had a son, Rajen Gupta, who married Kajri, daughter of actor-singer Shailesh Mukherji.
Bipin Gupta passed away on September 9, 1981, in Kolkata.
