Vivek Mushran – The Ultimate Chocolate Boy

If the term chocolate boy had a face, it would have been the face of Vivek Mushran. A promising actor who came riding the “Ilu Ilu” wave becomes an overnight star but cannot continue his success or evolve his acting game despite featuring in films like First Love Letter, Prem Deewane, Bewaffa Se Waffa, Ram Jaane, and many more.

Early Life and Career

Vivek Mushran, born on August 9, 1969, in Renukoot, Uttar Pradesh, India, has been a notable figure in the Indian film and television industry. Mushran attended Hindalco Vidya Niketan (now Aditya Birla Public School) in Renukoot for his early schooling. He later enrolled at Sherwood College in Nainital, a prestigious boarding school. After completing his schooling, he pursued a course at Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai.

His journey began with the blockbuster film “Saudagar” in 1991, directed by Subhash Ghai. In the drama, he portrayed Vasu, a young lover opposite Manisha Koirala caught in a rivalry of their feuding families. The film, featuring Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar, was a blockbuster. Its iconic song “Ilu Ilu” became a cultural phenomenon. This debut role launched Mushran into the spotlight, establishing him as a promising actor.

Vivek and Manisha reunited again in romantic drama First Love Letter (1991), directed by Shiva. In the film he played a poor village lad Shyam, who fall in love with the rich girl Radha. The film tells the story of overcoming the barriers of class and money.

In Ram Jaane (1995), directed by Rajiv Mehra, he played Murli, the friend of Shah Rukh Khan’s character Ram Jaane. It was a supporting role but his performance was praised in the film. One of his other notable film was Prem Deewane (1992) with Pooja Bhatt, Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit. He also acted in films like Saatwan Aasman (1992), Bewaffa Se Waffa (1992), Dil Hai Betaab (1993), Insaniyat Ke Devta (1993), and many more. After his early success, he struggled to maintain the it, shifting focus to television. Subhash Ghai’s “Kisna,” was the last film before he took a long sabbatical from films.

He also worked on television in serials like Mausam, Ashiqui, Ankahee, Kudrat, Bhaskar Bharti, Parvarrish—Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi, Ae Dil-E-Naadaan, Baat Hamari Pakki Hai, Nisha aur Uske Cousins, Ek Aastha Aisi Bhee, Main Maike Chali Jaungi Tum Dekhte Rahiyo, and many more. He is fondly remembered for his role in the fantasy comedy series “Son Pari” on STAR Plus, which was a hit among the younger audience.

Comeback and Other work

In addition to acting, Mushran has explored his musical talents. He released an album titled ‘Kahin Kho Gaya‘, which reflects his passion for singing. Mushran made a comback with Tamasha (2015), directed by Imtiaz Ali, as Ved (Ranbir Kapoor)’s boss, a brief but impactful role in a critically acclaimed film. In Begum Jaan (2017), directed by Srijit Mukherji, he portrayed Masterji a negative character, who tried to kill Begum Jaan after she rejected his proposal. He also acted in Veere Di Wedding in 2018. His recent works include appearances in web series like “Never Kiss Your Best Friend,” “Mai,” “Marzi,” and “Maamla Legal Hai.”
