Kriti Sanon is one of the most promising talents to have come into Hindi films over the past few years. With her beauty charm and versatile acting talent, she made a special place in the industry. Some of her standout performances came in films like “Bareilly Ki Barf, “Luka Chuppi,” and “Mimi.”
Early Life and Career
Kriti Sanon was born on July 27, 1990, in New Delhi, into a Punjabi family. Her father, Rahul Sanon, is a chartered accountant, while her mother, Geeta Sanon, is a physics professor at the University of Delhi. Kriti has a younger sister, Nupur Sanon, an actress and singer.
Kriti attended Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, excelling academically. She pursued a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida. She graduated in 2012, securing two job offers through campus placements. Kriti declined these to focus on modeling and acting. Her academic background in engineering reflects her disciplined approach to her career.
Kriti in Films

Kriti began her career as a model in 2009. Her sister Nupur sent her photos to an online contest by photographer Dabboo Ratnani, which Kriti won, earning a free portfolio and a one-year contract with a modeling agency. She appeared in commercials for brands like Closeup, Vivel, Samsung, and Amul. Kriti walked the ramp at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2010, Chennai International Fashion Week 2012, and India International Jewellery Week 2012, working with designers like Ritu Beri and Suneet Varma.
Her acting debut came in 2014 with the Telugu psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine, opposite Mahesh Babu. The same year, she made her Hindi film debut with “Heropanti,” opposite Tiger Shroff. Her performance in “Heropanti” earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, setting the stage for a promising career.
In 2015, she starred in the Telugu movie “Dohchay,” opposite Naga Chaitanya. The same years she paired with Varun Dhawan in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale (2015) with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The film was a global box-office success despite mixed reviews. Next year she starred opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in “Raabta (2016).” Her breakthrough role came in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s comedy “Bareilly Ki Barfi,” with Ayushmann Khurrana and Raajkummar Rao. In the film Kriti portrayed Bitti, a free-spirited woman in a small-town love triangle. Her chemistry with Khurrana and Rao along with her natural performance earned critical acclaim.
Crtical Acclaim
Her next success came with Laxman Utekar’s “Luka Chupp (2019),” with Kartik Aaryan. In the film she played a small town girl Rashmi, in a live-in relationship, behind her father’s back. To conceal the nature of their relationship, the couple faced many hilarious situations.

Her portrayal of a surrogate mother in Laxman Utekar’s “Mimi (2021)” won her critical acclaim and several awards, including the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In Amar Kaushik’s horror-comedy Bhediya (2022), Kriti played Dr. Anika with Varun Dhawan. Her role was relatively short but impactful. In 2023 she played Sita in Om Raut’s adaptation of Ramayan, “Adipurush,” with Prabhas as Lord Ram. The film was widely criticised for its treatment, dialogue, and visual effects. In the otherwise dull and problematic film, Kriti was the only aspect that got praised, along with the song “Ram Siya Ram.”
Kriti’s recent successes include the 2024 comedies “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” opposite Shahid Kapoor, where she played a robot, and “Crew,” with Kareena Kapoor and Tabu. Her versatility extends beyond acting, as she has launched her own line of clothing, a fitness company, and a skincare brand.
Some of her other films include Hum Do Hamare Do (2021), Bachchhan Paandey (2022), Shehzada (2023), and Ganapath (2023) and Do Patti (2024).
