Suneil Anand is an Indian actor, director, and producer, recognized as the son of legendary actor Dev Anand and actress Kalpana Kartik. He is one of the industry kids who never get success in the industry.
Early Life
Suneil Anand was born on June 30, 1956, in Zurich, Switzerland, while his parents attended the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. He has a sister, Devina Anand. His uncles, Chetan and Vijay Anand, were notable filmmakers. Cousins include director Ketan Anand and Shekhar Kapur. His cousin Neelu married Navin Nischol, and Aruna wed Parikshit Sahni, son of Balraj Sahni. Suneil grew up in Mumbai, surrounded by the film industry, with early exposure to cinema sets.
Suneil earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from American University in Washington, D.C. He also studied filmmaking courses abroad, combining business and creative skills.
Suneil Anand In Films
Suneil entered the industry under his father’s guidance, joining Navketan Films after his studies. He debuted as an actor in “Anand Aur Anand (1984),” opposite Natasha Sinha, directed by Dev Anand. The film was a mess, like many of Dev Anand’s later films. Suneil Annad had little to do in the film except be a pretty boy. Besides Annad’s The film also had Rakhee, Raj babbar and Smita Patil. Anand Aur Anand failed both critically and commercially.
His next film was Sameer Malkan’s Car Thief (1986) opposite Vijeyta Pandit. The film had a delayed release and failed at the box office.
Dev Anand again tried to launch his son, and this time he asked the great Vijay Anand to direct the film. The resulting film was Main Tere Liye (1988). Suneil Anand stars in the film alongside Rajendra Kumar, Asha Parekh, and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Despite all the efforts from director Vijay Anand, music director Bappi Lahiri, and Dev Anand himself, the film was a flop. Its failure put the full stop on Suneil’s career.
Years later, “Master (2001) “saw him as a martial arts expert, reflecting his training, marking his directorial debut. The film was a disaster at box office. Suneil managed Navketan Films after his father’s death in 2011.
