Hindi film fans know Inder Thakur as the big brother of Sachin (Chandan) in the cult classic “Nadiya Ke Par.” Inder impressed the viewers with his charming looks and subtle acting. But what happened to the promising actor? He has rarely been seen since. In a tragic turn of events, Inder and his wife and daughter were killed in the Air India Flight 182 bombing in 1985. Early Life
Inder Thakur was born around 1950 into the family of veteran actor Hiralal Thakur and his wife Darparani in Mumbai. Inder was the youngest of Hiralal’s sons.
Thakur was a brilliant student who had an interest in fashion. He went on to do a course in fashion design and started modelling while in college. He started his career by modelling for Liberty shirts, followed by Vimal Suitings, Poddar Textiles, and many more.

He was an top model when he was get to offfer to star in Rajshri’s “Nadiya Ke Paar,” directed by Govind Moonis. In the film, he portrayed the role of Omkar Tiwari, the older brother of Chandan, played by Sachin in 1982. This role was later reprised by Monish Behl in the Hindi remake titled “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,” a blockbuster that starred Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit.
In 1983, he played a small supporting role in Subhash Ghai‘s “Hero,” followed by the Smita Patil starrer “Chatpati (1985)” and “Tulsi (1985),” starring his Nadiya Ke Paar co-stars Sachin and Sadhana Singh.
Thakur’s keen eye for design and his modelling prowess led him to win the 1985 International Fashion Designer award at the World Modelling Association convention in New York City. Inder also worked as a purser for Air India.
The Tragedy
However, Thakur lost his life in a tragic event that shook the world. On June 23, 1985, he was returning from Canada, along with his wife Priya and child. All three were perished in the bombing of Air India Flight 182. The flight crashed over the Atlantic Ocean after a bomb explosion orchestrated by Canadian Sikh terrorists. The incident claimed the lives of all 329 people on board and left a void in the hearts of those who knew him and admired his work.
