Ghulam Ali’s journey into the realm of music began early, guided by his family’s musical heritage. His father, Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, was a renowned classical musician, laying the foundation for Ghulam Ali’s deep-rooted connection to melody and rhythm.
He is a disciple of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (elder Ghulam Ali Khan). Ali was also trained by Bade Ghulam Ali’s younger brothers – Barkat Ali Khan and Mubarak Ali Khan.
Ghulam Ali’s introduction to the world of ghazals came through the works of iconic poets like Mirza Ghalib, Allama Iqbal, and Ahmed Faraz. His ability to interpret and render these timeless verses elevated him to the status of a ghazal virtuoso. Each ghazal became a journey, an exploration of human emotions, and a celebration of the Urdu language’s poetic richness.
Apart from Urdu his Punabi ghazals and songs are have heart touching quality and been a rage in punjabi music lovers, his “Beh ja mere kol tenu” is used in Bollywood.
One of Ghulam Ali’s most famous ghazals, “Chupke Chupke Raat Din,” written by Great Hasrat Mohani, became an anthem of love, echoing through the hearts of fans globally. His repertoire also includes gems like “Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa” of Akbar Allahbadi and “Kal Chaudhvin Ki Raat Thi,” by Ibne Insha are one of the most admired ghazals of all time.
His other gems are Chamakte Chand Ko, Kiya Hai Pyar Jisé, May Nazar Sé Pee Raha Hoon, Mastana Peeyé, Yé dil yé pagal dil, Apni Dhun Mein Rehta Hoon a ghazal by Nasir Kazmi, “Ham Ko Kiske Gham Ne Maara” and countless more.
He was married to Afsana Ali and has a daughter Manjari Ghulam Ali and sons Aamir Ghulam Ali and Nazar Ali Abbas are also musicians.
