Early Life and Career
Manjot Singh was born on July 7, 1992, in New Delhi into a traditional Punjabi Sikh family. His father, Paramjot Singh, is an electrical engineer, while his mother, Amrit Kaur Singh, is a housewife. He has an elder brother, Sehebjot Singh, now based in Australia.
Singh attended Hillwoods Academy in New Delhi for schooling. He pursued higher education through correspondence at Delhi University.
Singh entered the entertainment industry at 16 with no prior acting experience. His father learned of auditions for Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) and encouraged him to try. The casting director rejected him, but director Dibakar Banerjee insisted on casting him as young Lucky. He attended a week-long workshop in Manali to prepare, marking his debut.
Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) features him as young Lucky, a professional thief. Manjot showcased Lucky’s descent into crime as an escape route from his unsatisfactory family life with utmost sincerity. His performance earned him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.
His second film, Udaan (2010), directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, casts him as a rebellious student. In 2012 he made his Punjabi film debut with Pure Punjabi. The same year he apeared as Dimpy in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year.

In Mrighdeep Singh Lamba Fukrey (2013), he portrays the fan favorite Lali Halwai. The film also stars Pulkit Samrat, Ali Fazal, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, and Richa Chadda. The film has since become a cult comedy with two squals Fukrey Returns (2017) and Fukrey 3 (2023). In 2019 he starred with Ayushmann Khurrana, Annu Kapoor, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Abhishek Banerjee in Dream Girl. He again reprised his role of Smiley in Dream Girl 2 (2023).
