Prem Kishan

Prem Krishen, who started his career as an actor, is a leading TV producer and the head of Cinevistaas Limited. He is known for his films like “Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye,” “Jay Vijay,” and “Hamare Tumhare,” as well as popular serials like “Gul Gulshan Gulfaam” and “Dill Mill Gayye.”

Early Life and Career

Prem Krishen Malhotra, known professionally as Prem Krishen, was born on July 5, 1953, in Bombay. Prem Krishen was born into a filmy family. His father, Prem Nath, was a renowned actor, and his mother, Bina Rai, was a celebrated actress of her time. His uncle Rajendra Nath was also an iconic actor and comedienne. Prem’s aunt Krishna (the sister of his father) was the wife of showman Raj Kapoor, which made him the first cousin of Randhir, Rishi, and Rajeev Kapoor.

Prem Krishen studied at Hill Grange High School on Peddar Road, Mumbai, where he nurtured his passion for acting. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he made his acting debut in the film “Jaan Haazir Hai (1975)” alongside Shekhar Kapur and Trilok Kapoor.

However, it was the 1977 hit “Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye,” opposite Rameshwari and directed by “Lekh Tandan, that brought him into the limelight, reviving the Rajshri banner and marking his presence in the industry.

He then went on to do films like Alibaba Marjinaa (1977), Jay Vejay (1977), Videsh (1977), Hamare Tumhare (1979), Guest House (1980), Hotel (1981), Naari (1981), Kaun? Kaisey? (1984), Ram Tera Desh (1984), Nadaniyan (1984), Saazish (1988), and Woh Subah Kabhie To Aayegi (1991).

Despite the initial success, Prem Krishen’s journey as an actor was short-lived, and he soon transitioned into production. His first serial as a producer was “Katha Sagar (1986),” followed by “Gul Gulshan Gulfaam” in 1987.

In 1993, he established Cinevistaas Limited, a film and television production company that became known for producing some of the most iconic TV series in India, such as “Junoon,” “Saahil,” “Hindustani,” “Zindagi Milke Bitayenge,” “Hamari Betiyoon Ka Vivaah,” “Dill Mill Gayye,” “Ek Hasina Thi,” “Beyhadh,” “Ek Deewaana Tha,” “Yeh Teri Galiyan,” “Bepannaah,” “Aap Ki Taarif,” “Aati Rahengi Baharein,” “Crime Patrol,” “Ghutan,” “Jaane Bhi Do Paro,” “Krisshna Arjun,” “Mamla Gadbad Hai,” “Manzil,” “Noorjahan,” “Sanjivani,” “Ssshhhh…Koi Hai,” “Vikraal Aur Gabraal,” “Zindagi,” and many more.

As a producer, Prem Krishen has shown an exceptional ability to understand the pulse of the audience, creating content that resonates with viewers across generations. His vision and leadership have steered Cinevistaas Limited to new heights, making it a significant player in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

Prem Krishen is married to Sunita, and together they have two kids: daughter Akanksha Malhotra, who has also ventured into acting, appearing in films like “Yeh Mohabbat Hai” (2002), and son Siddharth P. Malhotra.

Siddhath is also a famous writer, director, and producer, working on both films and TV. He directed films like We Are Family (2010), Hichki (2018), and Maharaj (2024).
