Ramesh Bhatkar was a well-known film, stage, and TV actor who was revered for his versatile and intese performances. Some of his notable roles came in Duniya Kari Salam, Maaherchi Manasa, Aapli Maanasa, Maherchi Sadi, and in TV shows like Hello Inspector, Khoj, Commander, and many more.

Early Life and Career

Ramesh Bhatkar was born on August 3, 1949, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Bhatkar’s journey was one of passion, dedication, and artistic excellence. The son of renowned music director, composer, and singer Snehal Bhatkar, Ramesh was destined for the arts. His early days saw him excel in swimming and playing kho-kho.

Bhatkar’s career spanned over three decades, during which he graced the silver screen in nearly 90 films, predominantly in Marathi, with a few notable Hindi appearances. His debut came with the film “Chandoba Chandoba Bhaglaas Ka” in 1977, setting the stage for a prolific career.

Memorable performances include Ashta Vinayak (1978), Duniya Kari Salaam (1979), Maherchi Manse (1984), Prem Karuya Khullam Khulla (1987), Rangat Sangat (1988), Aai Pahije (1988), Hamaal De Dhamaal (1989), Aaplee Maanse (1992), Maherchi Sadi (1991), Shodh (2003), Munnabhai S.S.C. (2005), and many more.

He was also part of Hindi films like De Taali (1989), Bandhan (1991), Paisa Paisa Paisa (1993), Bedardi (1993), Bomb Blast (1993), Hafta Vasuli (1998), Censor (2001), Kucch To Hai (2003), The Accidental Prime Minister (2019) and many more.

Bhatkar became a household name with his roles in the TV series ‘Commander‘ and ‘Hello Inspector‘. His other TV shows include “Damini.” “Teesra Dola,” “Haddapaar,” “Bandini,” “Yugandhar,” “Vikram Aur Betaal,” “Suspense Every Week,” and “100 Days (2016).”

Theatre was Bhatkar’s first love, and one of his standout performances came in the play ‘Ashroonchi Zaali Phule’, where he played the lead role of ‘Lalya‘. The critics alos praised his performances in ‘Mukta‘ and ‘Denaryaache Haath Hazaar.’ The plays gets positive reviews for their powerful narratives and Bhatkar’s compelling stage presence. Some of his other plays include “Ughadale Swargache Daar,” “Denaryaache Haath Hazaar,” “Shadyantra,” “Kevha Tari Pahate,” “Akher Tu Yeshilach,” “Rahu Ketu,” “Mukta,” “The Boss,” and “Kinara.”

Personal Life

Ramesh Bhatkar married to Mridula Bhatkar, and together they had a son, Harshavardhan. Bhatkar’s contribution to the arts was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Theatre in 2018.

Sadly, the curtains closed on Bhatkar’s life on February 4, 2019, when he passed away in Mumbai
