Pratibha Sinha

Pratibha Sinha is best remebered as the “Pardesi Girl,” because of her chartbuster song “Pardesi Pardesi” in Raja Hindustani. Although she was not like her mother, the legendary Mala Sinha, Pratibha Sinha was beautiful. She was also reasonably talented, but she failed to make any impact through performances or films.

Early Life and Career

Pratibha Sinha was born on July 4, 1969, in Kolkata, West Bengal, as the daughter of Mala Sinha and Nepali actor Chidambaram Prasad Lohani. Her father managed a business in Nepal. She grew up in a well-off family, splitting time between Mumbai and Kathmandu due to her parents’ long-distance marriage.

Pratibha Sinha made her debut with the film “Mehboob Mere Mehboob” in 1992, opposite Sujoy Mukherjee. During the making of her first film, she fell in love with her co-star, Sujoy Mukherjee. Her mother was not in favoure of the relationship. The couple was later engaged briefly, but their relationship ended soon.

In 1992, she starred in Ravi Chopra’s “Kal Ki Awaz (1992), as the daughter of Dharmendra. She paired with newcomer Rohit Bhatia in the film. Although the film was not successful, it’s music and songs became famous. She performed on the iconic song “Tumhari Nazron Mein Humne Dekha,” in the film.

Other Work

She aslo starred in K. C. Bokadia’s “Dil Hai Betab (1993)” with Ajay Devgn and Vivek Mushran. None of these films have done much for her career, as people have found her a very ordinary actress, in comparison to her mother. In 1995, she starred in “Pokiri Raja,” with Venkatesh and Roja. She also starred in “Ek Tha Raja (1996)” and “Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996)” both opposite Saif Ali Khan. The same year, she was seen in “Raja Hindustani,” and the song “Pardesi Pardesi” brought her widespread recognition.

She has also done movies like Gudgudee (1997), Deewana Mastana (1997), Koi Kisise Kum Nahin (1997), Zanjeer (1998), Military Raaj (1998), and Le Chal Apne Sang (2000). In the year 2000, Pratibha Sinha decided to step away from her acting career.

Personal Life

In the mid 1990s Pratibha meet music director Nadeem Saifi. Nadeem and Pratibha fall in love and started a relationship. Nadeem was the top music directors of the time, he helped her gettinng a few film. Pratibha’s mother was dead against the match and accused Nadeem of exploiting her. Reportedly, they get engaged despite her mother’s objections. Due to various circumstances, they did not get married.
