Early Life
Mahie Gill was born Rimpy Kaur Gill on December 19, 1975, into a Punjabi Jat Sikh family in Chandigarh. She did her schooling at Government College for Girls, Chandigarh, before doing her B.A. from Panjab University. From a young age, Mahie harboured a deep passion for acting and decided to pursue it as a career. She completed her master’s degree in theatre from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1998. Her journey into the entertainment industry began with modelling and theatre, where she gained recognition for her talent and dedication.
Debut and Breakthrough

Mahie Gill made her Hindi film debut with a small role in Amitoj Mann’s Hindi/Punjabi bilingual “Hawayein” in 2003. She then acted in Punjabi films like Khushi Mil Gayee (2004), Sirf Panch Din (2006), Mitti Wajaan Maardi (2007), and Chak De Phatte (2008), as well as Sudhir Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand.
However, her breakthrough came with the 2009 film “Dev.D,” directed by Anurag Kashyap. She played the role of Paro in this modern adaptation of the classic Bengali novel “Devdas” by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. She get widespread acclaim for her performance. Mahie also earned several awards and nominations, including the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

She then starred in Anurag Kashyap’s political drama “Gulaal (2009),” a cult classic. Mahie paired with Arbaaz Khan in the blockbuster Dabangg (2010). She reprised her role of Nirmala in Dabangg 2 (2012). She also acted in Utt Pataang (2011), and Not a Love Story (2011).
In 2011, she starred in the modern adaptation of Sahab, Biwi aur Ghulam, known as “Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster,” with Jimmy Sheirgill and Randeep Hooda. Mahie’s portrayal of Madhavi Devi, a sexually frustrated wife, earned her widespread acclaim. She reprised her role in the sequels Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013) and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 (2018).
She starred in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s biographical drama Paan Singh Tomar (2012). Mahie played the role of Indra Singh Tomar, the wife of the titular character played by Irrfan Khan.

Mahie first married Bikaramjeet Singh, but the couple separated after some time. In 2023, she confirmed being married to Ravi Kesar. Mahie Gill now lives in Goa with her Ravi Kesar and their daughter, Veronica.
